Ranger
From CommonKnowledge, the Cerroneth common knowledge wiki
Description
What is a Ranger? If a Rogue is "a jack of all trades" then the Ranger is a Master of Improvising. Rangers, lacking the strict adherences to honor that a knight has, have many different options for attack including stealth attacks, alchemy, poisons, traps, and other non conventional means of warfare. As servants of Nature, Rangers studying magic must first choose either Druid magics or general earth magics before branching into other magical studies. Rangers are forbidden from using necromancy.

The Rangers of Cerroneth are a very diverse group. Depending on whom you meet, you could leave the experience believing that Rangers are heroes serving a great cause, villains preying on the weak, or you may have no memory of the meeting what so ever. The story of the Ranger is strictly protected, along with the many rites, traditions, and ceremonies. Many have seen what a Ranger can do; none, other than rangers, can say how they came to do it. Rangers strictly serve nature as protector, hunter, and judge. Rangers maintain the balance between Nature and Civilization, bridging the gabs with their very blood.
Ranger's Code
Rangers have a code; it basically states the following, though the different orders stress different point more loosely or harshly, depending on the order:
- Honor the natural world and the laws of nature rather than the trappings of "civilization."
- Protect living creatures but recognize natural law and the natural selection. All of nature must eat.
- The druids are allies and can serve as teachers, but they are not necessarily your masters. Service to them is your choice.
- The traveler in the wilderness may warrant your attention. Assist those showing respect that may need your help; monitor those who seem to have knowledge, to ensure they do not destroy; and deter or hinder those who have no concern for the land from which they take.
- Money is necessary for some interaction with the world of people, but do not search out or hoard wealth. Barter where you can. Donate to a greater cause – not your own –that which you cannot use immediately.
- Do not leave a trace of your presence any place you stay. Give only a small item by which to remember you to those you most trust.
- The land is your home, but not a keep or cabin; stay in these places only briefly and only when necessary. Never shall you own one outright.
- Decide whom you will serve remembering the earth is your final master.
- You are the most noble of all knights so be humble in your dealings with others.
